Course Detail

Manufacturing process in steel industry undergoing  changes for making steel better in terms of quality, cost & delivery. Advance melting techniques like Secondary Steel Making play an important role in this direction. Quality of rolling mill products depend to a large extend on quality of continuously cast steel. Minor non metallic inclusion may cause surface defects on rolled sheet after undergoing rolling deformation. Inclusion and gas content in cast steel to be controlled before they are sent to Tundish of CCM. On tundish also, care must be taken so that there is no reoxidation and entrapment of inclusion from tundish and mould do not happen. This two days workshop has been designed to give insight of various secondary refining process, injection metallurgy along with continuous casting process

Presenter
Mr. B Raha

Mr. B Raha is renowned expert in steel making and casting industry.  He will bring more than 40 years of industrial experiences in various fields like Steel Casting, Forging, Melting, Heat treatment, R&D and Quality Assurance to this workshop. Mr Raha worked as senior executive in premier organisations in India like Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL), and presently working in Peekay Steel Castings. Under his leadership new grades were developed at BHEL and manufactured important castings and forgings, like Casings, Rotors, and Critical Forgings for application in Power, Aero Space, and Nuclear, Defence and Oil & Gas sectors. Mr. Raha was member of important Government bodies like Indian Creep Panel, Bureau of Indian Standard for policy decision. He was convenor of Material Rationalization committee of BHEL for development of specifications of power plant materials. Mr. Raha was awarded number of times by Management of BHEL for failure investigation work which saved substantial amount of company money. He is an ISO 9001, OHSAS 18001 Lead Auditor, and also TQM Assessor and established system & procedures in various organisations. Mr. Raha presented number of technical papers in various National and International Symposiums like Creep Resistant Steels for Power Plants, International Conference of Metallographic Society, Foundry Congress, International conference on emerging trends in materials and engineering, International forging conference and also got Best Paper award in 64th Foundry Congress. His present field of specialisation is Duplex Stainless Steel & Super Alloys. He was a certified trainer at BHEL & imparted training on Metallurgy; Quality Management to engineers in both public & private sector organisations. Mr. Raha delivered lectures for skill development to many engineering colleges in India and guides students for projects related to new steel grade development.
